This painting was a practice in observation. I placed a box of Vita Malt Soy Milk next to a chocolate cupcake and painted what I saw. I wanted to improve my ability to see and show small details, such as light, shadow, and texture. The background was done using a palette knife to create a loose and cool-toned contrast to the warm colors of the objects. It was a helpful exercise in still life painting and a fun way to study two everyday items that have different surfaces and forms.
